BCS President, Professor Wendy Hall CBE is coming to Newcastle on Wednesday 18th February 2004 to give a talk about the next stage in the development of the Internet - the Semantic Web. We all know about the development of the World Wide Web and how widespread its use now is. However, the Semantic Web aims to allow authors and readers to move more easily around information in a richly inter-linked global network.

The Internet and Web provided the infrastructure to enable those ideas to become reality but links are still difficult to author and maintain in practice. The talk will examine the current difficulties and how the Semantic Web will help us to solve them.

Professor Hall is well qualified to speak on the topic being Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton and co-author of the book "Hypermedia and the Web: an Engineering Approach". She has written over 300 academic papers during her career - many in the areas of hypermedia, digital libraries and knowledge technologies.

Wednesday, 18th February 2004 at 6:30pm. Non-Members are welcome. Tea, Coffee and Biscuits will be provided

Please feel free to stay for a glass of wine after the talk!
