Presentation Picture of Chairman Kay Setting up Picture of Speaker

Computers are used for a broad range of things from archeology to crime scene investigation. The standard PC isn't always appropriate for taking out in this field, so what other options are available?

Dr Chris Baber leads a research team designing and developing a range of technologies that are worn by the person, either for data collection or communication. He will be conducting a lecture on the challenges that arise in working in different domains and the types of technologies available.

An essential event for anyone interested in wearable computing

Chris Baber is Reader in Interactive Systems Design, in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering, at The University of Birmingham. He began his career researching speech technology (gaining a PhD in speech-based interaction in 1990 from Aston University). This work prompted an interest in providing speech input for mobile workers, and early attempts at fitting laptops to rucksacks inevitably lead to work on wearable computers. For the past six years, Dr. Baber has led a research team designing and developing a range of technologies that are worn by the person, either for data collection or communication. These technologies have been designed and trialled in a variety of domains, such as field archaeology, tourism, scene of crime investigation and distributed operations.
