Committee 

What does the branch do?

Branches hold regular meetings in their locale, on a diverse set of subjects within the field of IT. They enable BCS members to maintain contact with other professionals in their area, keep abreast of current developments and have a real input to BCS.

Commitee member - Helps run Branch generally, deputises for other officers as required, provides suggestions for the season’s programme.

What does being on the committee mean?

  • take advantage of the excellent networking opportunities and make useful contacts

  • What are the roles?

    Her are an example of some of the roles available within the committee:
  • Publicity officer - creates the posters and any press releases, enters dates into diary to be publicised in Computer publications such as Computer and IT Now etc.
  • Web officer - develops and maintains the branch website
  • Chairman - The Branch Chair is responsible for the supervision of all matters concerning the effective administration of the Branch.
  • Secretary - Gives notice of meetings to all Branch members. Prepares the agenda and records of minutes of meetings. Encourages individuals who have enquired about membership to join and issues information on forthcoming Branch events and maintains a database of contacts in key organisations
  • Treasurer - Responsibile for the Branch funds, submission of income and expenditure statements.
  • Communications officer - makes sure the posters get delivered to places such as universities and libraries
  • Education liaison officer - Liases with Universities and colleges to promote events and activities with the branch
  • Young Professional Representative - Represents the views of the young professionals within the Branch and liaises with local University Liaison Officers. Arranges and publicises YPG events, provides details of special offers and YPG Projects.
  • Industry Liaison Officer - Liaises with local companies about events and encourages suggestions and particiaption in events.
